Company description

With over $7 billion in assets, Energir (formerly Gaz Métro) is a major energy distributor. As Quebec’s leading natural gas distributor, it operates a network of underground pipelines spanning more than 10,000 km, serving over 300 municipalities and reaching more than 205,000 customers. Énergir is involved in the development and operation of promising and innovative energy projects, such as natural gas as a fuel and liquefied natural gas as a replacement for more emissive energies, wind and solar power generation, and biomethane valorization.

Challenges

In 2009, Energir is working to extend its market reach into the road transport sector – responsible for 40% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Quebec. The company is looking to displace diesel fuel in favor of natural gas for vehicles (NGV) for the province of Quebec’s major truck fleet owners and managers. Targeting a new market requires a thorough understanding of potential customers, which is why Énergir turned to our firm to find out about the perceptions and expectations of potential CNG customers.

Results

The consultation Extract Marketing Research (now Fino) carried out with truck fleet owners and managers from Quebec’s largest transport companies helped Energir to develop a strategy for the future.
